About Us

Mahatma Gandhi University established the Institute for Contemporary Chinese Studies (ICCS) in 2011 under the UGC Area Studies Programme with a view to promote Teaching, Research and Collaborative Programme on China as well as China-India studies in a comparative analytical mode that shall generate knowledge and information on these societies.

Mission: The mission of the ICCS is to emerge as a leading research centre in Asian Studies in general and specifically China -India Studies focusing on research, education, outreach, policy studies, community relations, international relations, academic exchange and mobility, and public discourse.

Objectives:

  1. To promote teaching and inter-disciplinary research on Chinese studies and China-India comparative studies;
  2. To identify potential Chinese and South East Asian institutions of repute involved in Chinese and South Asian studies that shall enter into collaboration with M.G. University;
  3. To identify potential academic areas of collaboration and co-operation;
  4. To co-ordinate with national agencies such as ICCR, ICSSR, ICHR in the promotion of co-operation with institutions in China;
  5. To facilitate the visits of students, research scholars and teachers to potential institutions in China;
  6. To promote awareness on Chinese development experiences and provide feedback on potential areas of cooperation.
