  • Hosted Prof. Jia Haitao, Director, Institute for Chindian Studies, Jinan University, Guangzhou, China as the KSHEC sponsored Erudite Scholar-in-Residence during January 2011.
  • The ICCS jointly with the School of International Relations and Politics organized a One Day Symposium on the theme: China and the Emerging World Order: Is Peaceful Rise Possible? on 23 December 2011.
  • Raju K. Thadikkaran, Honorary Director ICCS jointly with Dr. K.M Seethi, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University participated in the International Conference on Buddhism and World Culture organized by Jinan University, China as well as in a One Day Colloquium on the theme India and South Korea
  • The ICCS organized a major International Conference on China (CoC 2012) during 1-3 November 2012 on the theme The Rise of China: Policy Parameters and Prospects jointly with the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), New Delhi, Association of Asian Scholars (AAS), New Delhi and Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), New Delhi.
  • The ICCS organized an International Symposium on the theme Political Transition in China and the United States – Implications for India on 28 February 2013 jointly with the KPS Menon Chair.
  • Course modules on China have been introduced at the Post Graduate level jointly with the School of International Relations and Politics
  • Phil Programme on Chinese Studies has already been initiated and research programmes are being finalized.
  • The ICCS organized a major National Seminar on the theme “Understanding China: Indian Perspectives” jointly with the Nelson Mandela Chair for Afro-Asian Studies, SIRP and the Chennai Centre for Chinese Studies during February 2015. It was attended by around 20 invited scholars.
  • The ICCS organized another major Conference on the theme “Engaging Diaspora” jointly with the Nelson Mandela Chair for Afro-Asian Studies, SIRP during March 2015.
  • Srikanth Kondapalli, Professor of Chinese Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi associated with the ICCS as a visiting Professor for 10 days during March 2015.

Scholar-in-Residence

  • Hosted Prof. Jia Haitao, Director, Institute for Chindian Studies, Jinan University, Guangzhou, China as the KSHEC sponsored Erudite Scholar-in-Residence during January 2011. Prof. Jia delivered a series of Lectures on the themes: Urbanisation and Social Development in China; Ethnic and Minority Question in China Today; Religion in the Contemporary China; Sino – Indian Relations: Issues and Challenges; One Country, Two Systems and the Taiwan Question.

The ICCS has been able to generate a very good awareness on the significance and rational of Chinese Studies among students, teachers and researchers. Further, the ICCS has been quite successful in initiating a dialogue among scholars, academics, diplomats and policy makers on the issues and concerns as well as opportunities associated with Chinese studies in general and Sino-Indian relations in particular.

The ICCS has been able to produce a number of papers presented by academics, policy makers and diplomats, reflective of their knowledge and expertise on China which will be of immense value to the students, research scholars, teachers and academics and will be of immense relevance to the policy making, as well. Most of these papers and presentations will be published shortly.

  • Semester abroad programme whereby students from Mahatma Gandhi University will spend one semester in China and will specialize in course modules related to China. On the other hand, Chinese students will spend one semester in Mahatma Gandhi University, focusing on India studies
  • International Summer School on India and China on the theme The Rise of China and India: Socio-Cultural Milieu of India and China

  • Initiate certificate and language courses in Chinese language for the Students, Faculty, Researchers and the Public;
